Psychedelic Furs come to The Uptown in Napa

The Furs perform at the Uptown Theatre in Napa on 5 May 2011.

Led by singer and songwriter Richard Butler and his bass playing brother Tim, the Furs won over fans and critics by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven by and aggressive punk desperation. The band scored major hits with "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink," "The Ghost In You," and "Heartbreak Beat." They released seven studio albums, several compilations, a box set and a live DVD.

Critics routinely compared the group's enigmatic sound to the art rock superstars like David Bowie, The Velvet Underground and The Doors, as well as to the punk progenitors, The Sex Pistols.

As their later releases grew more guitar-oriented, the Furs bridged the gap between early punk and the alternative hard rock and grunge that would rise during the '90's - and paved the way for a new generation of musicians.

OMD Plans North American Concert Tour

NEW YORK, Jan. 10, 2011 (UPI)

The British pop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark says it will begin its North American concert tour in Toronto, Canada, this March.

The shows are to support its first new album in 14 years, "History of Modern," which was released on Bright Antenna Records through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group and which has sold more than 100,000 copies.

Last autumn, the lineup of Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper, and Malcolm Holmes embarked on the sold-out "History of Modern" European Tour. It was the band's first in 19 years.

"The tour is now officially heading stateside this March with North American stops including Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and playing select shows at this year's SXSW (festival in Austin, Texas). It will be the group's first U.S. outing with the original lineup since their 1988 stadium tour with Depeche Mode," said a news release announcing the tour Monday.

"After three years of critically acclaimed sold out concerts in the United Kingdom and Europe, these dates will feature the band mixing their most celebrated and classic hits -- 'Enola Gay,' 'So In Love,' 'If You Leave,' and 'Souvenir' -- with new songs, creating a distinctly contemporary live show."

WXB102 The Rebirth

After months of trying and testing different chat applications and delivery systems, we have finally come with a site that offers ease of use and a reliable delivery system.

WXB on the Internet started its live webcast operations at Live365 with a handful of listeners. We usually would open with just about 3 listeners and average about a dozen listeners. This was achieved with a staff of 5 live DJ's. These were The Ghost, Mick Flame, Julius Caesar, Naughty Natty, and yours truly, George Frederick, and, when off the air, the server would kick it with recorded shows made by Cool Carla, The Morning Man, The Sandman, DJ Hilary, and DJ Klyde - all under the leadership of Michael Sutton. We had more staff on WXB than we had listeners.

After almost 5 years with Live365, WXB ran out of funds, and was not able to pay for our broadcasts to go live. I found a way to keep the broadcasts going using a combination of free internet radio sites like Hayag and Sopcast. The funny thing was that we were still using Live365 as our base of operations. This had to change, and hence, we had to find a new home for operating the station.

Welcome to the new WXB102 Internet Radio Site!

While the site was ready for use about a week before we finally moved operations to this site, I was hesitant to open the site for operations since there were some features on the wishlist that could not be implemented at the time.

I would admit that there is still a lot to improve in this new site. So far, we have received wonderful and positive feedback to the site. You may have noticed that the track artists and titles are missing on our site, and I will work to get that working as soon as I figure out how to do it.
